Origin
The term "micromanage" was coined around 1978, formed from the prefix "micro-" (from Greek mikros, "small") combined with "manage" (from Old French mener, "to lead"). Though the term is recent, the concept has deeper roots in early 20th-century scientific management, which emphasized efficiency and control in industrial settings. The modern coinage reflects growing critique of overly controlling management styles that emerged in the latter half of the 20th century.
