Joy's Law
An aphorism that "no matter who you are, most of the smartest people work for someone else."
EverydayConcepts.io
Origin
Coined by Bill Joy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, as a response to Bill Gates' view of Microsoft as an "IQ monopolist." Joy argued it's better to "create an ecology that gets all the world's smartest people toiling in your garden for your goals" rather than relying solely on employees. The aphorism highlights that talent and expertise are distributed across many organizations, not concentrated within any single company. "Smart" here refers to capability, not willingness to work for someone.
