Origin

Ancient Greek poet Archilochus wrote the fragment "a fox knows many things, but a hedgehog knows one big thing" around the 7th century BCE. Philosopher Isaiah Berlin revived the line in his 1953 essay The Hedgehog and the Fox, using it to divide thinkers into two camps: hedgehogs who organize the world through a single defining idea, and foxes who draw on a wide variety of experiences and perspectives.
