Headwinds Tailwinds Asymmetry

The tendency for benefits and resources to be simply enjoyed and ignored (headwinds), whereas, unequally, barriers and hindrances command attention as something to overcome (tailwinds).

Origin

Introduced by Shai Davidai and Thomas Gilovich in their 2016 paper in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Through seven studies at Cornell University, they showed that obstacles are more cognitively salient than advantages because barriers demand active attention to overcome, while benefits are simply enjoyed and forgotten.
