Ducks Vs. Decorated Shed
In architecture, 'ducks' are buildings that explicitly represent their function through their shape and construction. "Decorated sheds", on the other hand, are generic structures that use signs and imagery to convey their purpose.

Origin
First introduced by the American architect Robert Venturi in his book "Learning from Las Vegas," published in 1972. Venturi argued that both approaches had merit and that architects should be free to choose which approach best suited their design goals. The concepts of ducks and decorated sheds have since become widely recognized in architectural theory and have been used to describe different approaches to building design and expression.
