Concretism

The term derives from Latin res ("thing"), meaning "to make into a thing." While Hegel introduced related ideas in his 1820 Philosophy of Right, the concept was developed by Karl Marx in his analysis of commodity fetishism in Das Kapital (1867), where he argued that social relations between people appear as relations between things. It was fully theorized as Verdinglichung ("thing-ification") by Hungarian philosopher György Lukács in his 1923 essay "Reification and the Consciousness of the Proletariat," foundational to the Frankfurt School.
