Origin
Peter Gluckman and Mark Hanson developed the concept of developmental mismatch in their 2006 book Mismatch: Why Our World No Longer Fits Our Bodies. The New Zealand and British researchers, respectively, argued that modern lifestyle diseases like obesity and diabetes result from the gap between our evolved phenotype—shaped by developmental plasticity—and contemporary urban environments.
