Origin

Coined by Hungarian-British author Arthur Koestler in his 1964 book The Act of Creation, though he explored related ideas in his earlier 1949 work Insight and Outlook. Koestler devised the term to distinguish creative leaps — which connect two previously unrelated 'matrices of thought' — from the routine associations of everyday thinking.
