Streisand Effect
The phenomenon where an attempt to hide, remove, or censor a piece of content has the unintended consequence of drawing more attention to that content.

Origin
In 2003, Barbra Streisand sued photographer Kenneth Adelman for $50 million to remove an aerial photo of her Malibu mansion from the California Coastal Records Project, a coastal-erosion documentation effort. The photo had been downloaded only six times before the lawsuit; afterward, it was viewed over 420,000 times. Mike Masnick of Techdirt coined the term on January 5, 2005.
Everyday Use
Sometimes by trying to remove something from our lives, or attempting to distract ourselves from it, in turn gives it greater attention and even power over us (bad habits, procrastination).
